Sleep apnea refers to a disturbance in the breathing pattern while a person is asleep.

What are the symptoms of sleep apnea?

  • Fatigue and the need to sleep at odd hours
  • Breaks in sleep to take breath
  • Waking tired
  • A bad taste in the mouth at night
  • Loud snoring
  • Sweating while asleep

How can you prevent sleep apnea?

  • Watch your weight. If you are overweight, take steps to lose the extra pounds.

  • Go to bed early and the same time everyday.
  • Avoid sleeping in the day time to help you sleep in the night comfortably.
  • Use a comfortable pillow that raise you head by 4-5 inches.
  • Learn to sleep on your side.
  • Eat balanced meals at the scheduled times.
  • Keep away from alcohol and tobacco.
